The Hawks failed to make the playoffs after being eliminated in the play-in tournament this past season.

With financial flexibility and some assets, they could reshape the roster a bit going into next year.

What was the update?

In a recent press conference, the Hawks' GM answered a question about Trae's status with the team going into next season.

The GM answered, "We're locked in with Trae ... We're locked into next season, ready to move forward" (Underdog NBA).

The plan seems to come to terms on an extension with Trae, and to continue to try and build around him over the next few years.

The Hawks already have talented young players with opportunities to develop.

Zaccharie Risacher was just taken first overall in 2024 and is a promising young talent.

Dyson Daniels was a key defensive acquisition from the Pelicans, who won MIP and was second in DPOY voting in 2024-25.

Jalen Johnson was having a career year this past season before being ruled out for the rest of the year with an injury.

It's only a matter of time before things start clicking for Atlanta, and if they can secure Trae's contract, that could mean they're only a move or two away from being a major threat in an open Eastern Conference next season.
