The Cleveland Guardians have a complicated MLB trade deadline ahead of them. With the chance to turn things around thanks to a soft schedule, the Guardians could hold onto more of their players than previously thought.
However, regardless of the record, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports the Guardians updated trade stance on a few of their top potential options. Emmanuel Clase is doubtful to be traded, and for Steven Kwan, it's the same.
"Most of all," Meisel writes, "Teams want to know whether they can pry away closer Emmanuel Clase or left fielder Steven Kwan. That seems doubtful, especially Kwan."
There's no room for doubt, the Guardians are unlikely to move on from Kwan at this year's MLB trade deadline. Even with teams expressing interest in the All-Star left fielder, the Guardians aren't planning to move on from the franchise icon.
He had a clutch infield single in the All-Star Game this season and is a huge part of the Guardians' offense. It'd take a massive haul to move on from him, and this report suggests that Cleveland wouldn't move him even with such an offer on the table.

In 2025, Kwan has been a focal point of the offense. He has a .285 batting average, six home runs, 43 runs scored, 32 RBIs, 103 hits, 20 doubles, one triple, 33 walks, 34 strikeouts, and a .741 OPS.
He's the team leader in hits, second in runs scored, fifth in RBIs, second in average and on-base, and third in slugging percentage. His OPS is also second on the team, and is one of three players with an OPS above .700.
These statistics paint a clear picture: losing Kwan would be a huge loss for the offense. One of the league's worst offensive units would lose its second-best player. Fortunately, it looks like such a scenario won't happen.
Instead of trading away a fan favorite player for a prospect package, they will hang onto Kwan. Whether this season results in a postseason berth or not, the Guardians aren't intending to trade Kwan at the deadline.
