Guardians predicted to sign $6M Dodgers World Series champion to revive outfield over Marcell Ozuna

The Cleveland Guardians are set to begin Spring Training after being eliminated from the playoffs by their rival Detroit Tigers in October. The offseason has been relatively quiet for Cleveland.

“While the Cleveland Guardians haven't made any major league additions to their lineup this offseason, it’s been at the top of mind for nearly every Guardians fan this offseason. And even though the Guardians’ front office hasn’t made one of those splashes, it seems like it’s been front of mind for them as well,” Away Back Gone’s Henry Palattella wrote.

Cleveland has been linked to several names this offseason, including World Series champion Marcell Ozuna.

“This Cleveland Guardians team desperately needs more pop in the heart of the lineup. Kyle Manzardo made a strong first impression as a rookie. Chase DeLauter and Travis Bazzana are coming behind him as top prospects who can rip it. But even if it's a one-year deal, Ozuna has the goods to protect José Ramírez in the heart of the order and pop a few more dingers than Cleveland fans are used to,” FanSided’s Christopher Kline wrote.

While the Guardians aren’t expected to make any high-profile moves, FanSided’s Chris Landers believes they could sign Michael Conforto.

“Speaking of veteran buy-low candidates. Conforto's lone year with the Dodgers was a dud, but his numbers under the hood looked right in line with his career averages. The data suggests there's still an above-average hitter here, and "above average" would be a tremendous improvement for a Guardians outfield that was literally the worst in baseball at the plate last season,” Landers wrote.

The Guardians are coming off a season in which their offense produced minimal results at the plate. Conforto didn’t have his best year offensively, but there is still promise with the veteran.

He has also been part of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series championship teams over the past two seasons. Conforto would bring a valuable veteran presence to the clubhouse, and perhaps a change of scenery could help him rediscover his rhythm at the plate in Cleveland.
