Guardians losing Jose Ramirez to injury makes offensive problem more dire than ever

The Cleveland Guardians got some terrible news during Saturday's game, as Jose Ramirez left early, causing serious concern about his injury status.

On Sunday morning, Zack Meisel of The Athletic confirmed those fears with the report that Ramirez is landing on the injured list with a hamate fracture.

Now, with the Guardians losing Ramirez, their already worrisome offense just got a lot worse. This problem is more dire than ever, and the Guardians are going to have to aggressively fix things this summer.

"The Guardians placed Jose Ramirez on the IL with his hamate fracture," Meisel reports. "They activated Gabriel Arias from the IL and designated George Valera for assignment."

With Cleveland losing Ramirez, their best hitter, who led the team with a .757 OPS this season with a team-best 24 steals, 64 hits, 41 walks, and 42 runs. He was also second in home runs with 10 and RBIs with 33.

On the 2026 season so far, this Guardians offense ranks 26th in team OPS at .689, ahead of only the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, and San Diego Padres.

Now that they're losing their best player, the offense is trending towards being the worst in baseball unless some other hitters start stepping up.

It might finally be time for the Guardians to spend a bit in the trade market this summer, as they desperately need offensive firepower with Ramirez sidelined for a while.

This Ramirez injury is a huge blow for the Guardians, and it's going to make an already AL-worst offense trend towards being the worst offense in all of MLB.

This offensive problem is more dire than ever after Ramirez's injury, and the solution is one that might cost the Guardians quite a bit in the trade market.
