Guardians listed as good fit Marlins pitcher

The Cleveland Guardians may be the new home for a Miami Marlins pitcher.

As the trade deadline approaches, only time will tell if the Guardians will be buyers or sellers at the deadline. But with Cleveland in the heat of the wild card race right now, the Guardians could be buying at the deadline in a little over a month.

In an article from Mark Feinsand of mlb.com, the Guardians were listed along with the Athletics, Blue Jays and Diamondbacks as a good fit for Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera.

“Alcantara has pitched better of late and could regain his value with a strong month, but the hard-throwing Cabrera (2-2, 4.10 ERA) will be a less expensive option in terms of both prospect capital and salary, as he’s earning $1.95 million this season and is arbitration-eligible for three more years after 2025,” Feinsand said.

A cheap arm could be beneficial to Cleveland down the stretch of the season. With a few starting pitchers currently injured, Cabrera could help Cleveland’s starting rotation as the team waits for pitchers like Shane Bieber, John Means and Ben Lively to return to the mound.

Cabrera has also found a rhythm of late that he could continue on a playoff contending team like the Guardians. In his last four starts, Cabrera has allowed a combined three earned runs and shut out his opponents in two of the four starts, each of those two starts being 5.2 innings of work.
