Carlos Santana has been around a long time and done a lot of good things at the plate throughout his MLB career.
But he's approaching the type of historic MLB company that not many would consider him a part of. The Cleveland Guardians' switch-hitter might be making a case as one of the most underrated batters of this era.
Santana needs three more doubles to reach 400 doubles for his career. When he does that, he'll have reached the plateaus of 400 doubles, 300 homers and 1,300 walks.
The last four MLB hitters to reach the 400-2B/300-HR/1300-BB club:
- Joey Votto
- Albert Pujols
- David Ortiz
- Alex Rodriguez
Those are four of the greatest hitters in baseball history.
Sure, a few of them went way over a couple of those benchmarks, which were a bit arbitrarily chosen in part to get Santana in the club.
But to keep the company of those guys is a remarkable place to be.

Santana, 39, began his MLB career with eight seasons in Cleveland. He went to the Phillies for a year, then back to Cleveland for two more.
Then it was the Royals, Mariners, Pirates, Brewers and Twins before Santana came back once again in 2025.
He's batting .235/.345/.370 this season with six home runs.
In his career, Santana has a .354 on-base percentage and 330 homers.
He's still got one of the best eyes in the game, and it has allowed him to be successful even this deep into his 16-year MLB career.
Turns out, he's got a historic combination of skills that maybe we all should appreciate a bit more.
