The Cleveland Guardians' brutal loss in the AL Wild Card taught them one thing: you can never have enough pitching depth. They had two solid starts from Gavin Williams and Tanner Bibee, but without the third, they ended up losing 6-3 in Game Three.
Now, Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller believes that the Guardians should fix that mistake and go out and acquire another All-Star arm in Mackenzie Gore.

“Trading away Steven Kwan is on the table, but he's probably more valuable to Cleveland than he is as a trade chip, as the Guardians' window to contend for the AL Central crown is still definitely open. Last winter, they traded Josh Naylor for Slade Cecconi and may have found a solid option for the rotation. They also traded for Luis Ortiz, which ended up being a much worse gamble. But bartering for another starting arm is probably the way to go here,” Miller wrote.
This season, Gore posted a 4.17 ERA with 185 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.353 over 159 innings pitched. However, before the All-Star Break, Gore had an ERA of 3.08 and 138 strikeouts.

Gore has been made the ace of the Washington Nationals, but it’s clear he might not be ready for that type of responsibility. Putting him behind Williams and Bibee allows him to learn from them and takes pressure off his shoulders.
Given another season in such a role, he definitely can be a starter if the Guardians look to finish a series. Hopefully, they start building a package for him soon, as many other teams will be looking to get Gore as well.
