GTA game studios, Rockstar Games, issued a statement that the recently fired employees were leaking company secrets. Last Thursday (October 30, 2025), the company fired around 30 to 40 employees from its UK and Canada offices. Since these workers were part of a British Trade Union, the game company experienced lots of backlash from the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB).
Speaking to Bloomberg this Wednesday (November 5, 2025), Rockstar's spokesperson explained the reason behind the layoffs. They said that the small group of employees was leaking confidential information in various public forums, which was a clear violation of the company's rules. They added that this was not at all related to their joining a union.
“Last week, we took action against a small number of individuals who were found to be distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum, a violation of our company policies,” the spokesperson said. “This was in no way related to people’s right to join a union or engage in union activities,” Rockstar Games spokesperson said.In response to Rockstar Games' statement, the President of the British Trade Union, Alex Marshall, said that the company was afraid of workers discussing their rights. He even brought GTA 6 into the matter, saying that the company does not care whether the game gets delayed and is more focused on union-busting.
“[They were] afraid of hard-working staff privately discussing exercising their rights for a fairer workplace and a collective voice. Management are showing they don’t care about delays to GTA VI, and that they’re prioritizing union-busting by targeting the very people who make the game,” said Alex Marshall.GTA developers Rockstar Games accused of union-busting after firing dozens of employees
Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) has been accusing Rockstar Games of union-busting for a week now. Soon after the company fired around 30 to 40 people, the president of IWGB, Alex Marshall, and other union heads have been slamming them for the act. A week ago, Marshall spoke to Bloomberg, labeling this action as "ruthless acts of union busting" and heavily attacked GTA developers.
“Rockstar has just carried out one of the most blatant and ruthless acts of union busting in the history of the games industry. This flagrant contempt for the law and for the lives of the workers who bring in their billions is an insult to their fans and the global industry,” he said.As of now, there has been no legal action taken against Rockstar Games, but there have been loads of heated discussions and statements from the union.
