Green Bay Packers among teams listed as option for Denver Broncos bust Russell Wilson

1 hour ago 2

Russell Wilson has been around the block a good bit in recent years and will be headed toward a different phase of his career. It’s tough to find a good fit for Wilson at this stage of his career, but he’s still a respected veteran and could be a decent option for a team.

Among those teams is the Green Bay Packers.

Eva Geitheim of Sports Illustrated suggested Wilson’s career is in a weird spot, but that a team like the Packers could be ideal for him. That development has led to the growing belief that Wilson may now be better suited as a high-end backup rather than a locked-in starter.

“After Russell Wilson struggled last season and was swiftly benched for Jaxson Dart, he makes the most sense as a backup. The Packers, Jets and Browns are all teams that potentially could prefer an experienced backup in Wilson,” Geitheim wrote.

Wilson would back up Jordan Love after losing Malik Willis, even if Wilson isn’t what Willis is at this stage of his career.

The New York Jets and Cleveland Browns were also named as potential fits by Geitheim. The Jets will need to figure some things out on the front, and the Browns have a ton of QB issues.
