Golden Knights have traded away 7 future draft picks

The Vegas Golden Knights aren't too concerned with their own draft picks.

Consistently they use them to acquire experienced players, and it works out more often than not for Vegas, at least in the sense that they continue to put quality rosters on the ice.

The latest pair of picks to be traded away occurred on Thursday to get Nic Dowd from the Washington Capitals. The picks moved were a 2027 third-rounder and a 2029 second-rounder.

That makes seven Vegas picks that are currently residing elsewhere over the next few years.

This is the last, via The Athletic's Jesse Granger:

  • 2026 1st to Calgary
  • 2026 4th to Washington
  • 2027 1st to Calgary
  • 2027 3rd to Washington
  • 2028 2nd to Calgary
  • 2028 3rd to Nashville
  • 2029 2nd to Washington

The 2026 first-round pick is the last remaining piece of the Noah Hanifin deal.

The 2026 fourth-rounder went in the Anthony Mantha deal.

The 2027 first-round pick went to the Flames in the recent trade for Rasmus Andersson, as did the 2028 second-round pick.

There are the two aforementioned Dowd picks, and then there's the Cole Smith trade this week that sent a 2028 third-rounder to Nashville.

This feels a lot like how the NFL's Los Angeles Rams approach draft picks. They almost never make their own first-round pick, because they like how they can utilize them to acquire more proven talents.

The Golden Knights certainly continue to go for it, and they're using their draft picks to do so.
