The San Francisco Giants may have turned the wildest triple play of the season, and it's only the first weekend of Spring Training.
They've got the Chicago Cubs to thank for their help on this one.
It came on what was initially a single, too, but then everything got bizarre when a throw toward the plate prompted two of the three runners to try and advance.
The batter-runner was tagged out simply at second base.
Then, the Cubs ended up with two runners both standing on third base.
One was out upon tag, but the other wasn't.
Problem: Matt Shaw, that last runner, didn't know he was still safe. So he started to leave.
Giants third baseman Matt Chapman still had the ball in his glove when he saw Shaw wander off the base. That was a simple tag for the third out of the inning.

Evidently, it was a good opportunity for the Cubs to learn how not to run the bases.
For the Giants, it was a chance to see that they can get three outs on the same play, which they very likely won't do the rest of the season.
It's never too early for a triple play.
But even by three-outs-in-one-play standards, this one was extra weird.
