Giants' Russell Wilson's history says his starting QB job isn't safe to Jaxson Dart

4 hours ago 1

Russell Wilson has been on the other side of this story.

Let's go back to 2012, when the Seattle Seahawks drafted Wilson. That offseason already, they had signed Matt Flynn from the Packers to be their starting quarterback.

Wilson came to Seattle and won the starting job, getting the nod in all 16 games of his rookie season and sending Flynn packing at the end of the year.

Now, 13 years later, Wilson is the veteran brought in before the draft to be a starting QB (albeit one with a much better resume than Flynn).

Standing beside Wilson is Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart, who the Giants traded back into the first round to get at No. 25 overall.

The fact that this story happened once doesn't mean it will again.

New York likely hoped to get Dart and allow him to learn from Wilson and Jameis Winston for a while. Those are two long-time NFL quarterbacks with lots of talent. They can definitely show Dart the ropes.

But sometimes a rookie QB steals momentum. If Dart is throwing darts at practice and in the preseason, fans at the very least will want him to be fairly considered.

Wilson was the guy who once more or less ended Flynn's starting career by never letting him start a single game in Seattle.

If Dart is ready earlier than expected, it could spell an accelerated end of the road for Wilson.

It's not expected, but it is possible. Wilson himself showed us that.
