Giants' rumored release of $40 million starter could interest Bears, Cowboys, Broncos

The New York Giants are reportedly set to release a defender who could be of interest to the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Giants have informed linebacker Bobby Okereke that they will release him, which makes him a free agent.

This was the expected outcome for Okereke, who hadn't played up to snuff the past two seasons.

Even still, Okereke wasn't that bad last season, as he ranked 38th and 24th in pass-rush and coverage grades among linebackers, per Pro Football Focus.

His 45.5 run-defense grade was bad, but that mark was an outlier for Okereke, who had posted grades north of 71 in that area in the three years prior.

Even coming off a less-than stellar year, Okereke is going to draw interest on the open market, and three teams that could be among the suitors are the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos.

The Cowboys decided to cut Logan Wilson recently, which leaves the team with a need at linebacker next to DeMarvion Overshown, who is a bit of a question mark himself after injury issues during his young career.

The Broncos have a pair of key linebackers set to hit the open market in Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad and could need two players at the position.

In Chicago, the Bears have reportedly given Tremaine Edmunds permission to seek a trade, and if that trade can't be found, he's expected to be released.

Okereke's contract with the Giants was for four years and $40 million. It's logical to assume he'll garner less than that in his next deal, which will make him a reasonably priced option for all three teams.
