Currently, the Boston Red Sox are 29-40 and 5.5 games behind the final spot in the AL Wild Card. While it is certainly doable to get back into the playoff race, they need to address their biggest issue: their pitiful offense.
If the Sox can get a good bat by the deadline, they may be able to turn this chaotically bad season around. Luckily, it seems the San Francisco Giants are putting up multiple stars for sale, and if Boston doesn’t want a reunion with Rafael Devers, getting his teammate Willy Adames might be a good play.

This season, Adames has struggled even more than he did last year. At least last season, he hit 30 home runs.
This season, he’s slashing .229/.274/.418/.692 with 18 doubles, 11 home runs, and 29 RBI in 70 games. It certainly doesn’t help that Oracle Park, San Francisco’s home, is a notoriously pitcher-friendly park.

However, his bat could see a revival in a hitter-friendly park like Fenway. The Sox have pursued him in the past, and now that he’s available again, they might want him.
He’s a righty hitter that likes to pull, making him a prime candidate to abuse the Green Monster. Adames hit his prime with the Milwaukee Brewers, and he was a scary batter to face in Fenway. In six games, he slashed .320 with eight hits and four RBI in six games.
While it is a small sample size, it shows he could be the hitter Boston needs right now.

Thanks to his couple slow seasons with San Francisco, the Red Sox may be able to get the Giants to eat some of his $31 million per year contract.
Adames would slot in well at shortstop, and Marcelo Mayer could go back to second base. However, the Sox would have to figure out what to do with Trevor Story. He is nearing his return to the MLB roster, but he has been a very poor hitter for Boston all season.
While this might not be a move the Sox make, it’s one they need to consider. Hopefully, they get the ball rolling on something soon, to turn this season around.
