Giants part ways with All-Pro kicker to sign Super Bowl champion WR

The New York Giants have a lot of moving parts on their roster in recent days.

That includes cutting an All-Pro kicker to clear a roster spot for a Super Bowl champion WR who has also played in a Pro Bowl.

The corresponding moves were announced Tuesday -- the Giants have signed Juju Smith-Schuster, as was previously reported, and cut Jason Sanders.

It's the kicking component of this that was rather unexpected.

Sanders, formerly of the Miami Dolphins, was by far the most experienced kicker under contract with the Giants.

The 30-year old Sanders has made 84.6% of his NFL field goal attempts. That includes 90.2% in the 2024 season, when he was 12-for-14 from 50-plus yards.

Sanders missed the entire 2025 season with injury, and there's always a chance that factored into this release decision.

Regardless, it means the Giants are looking at youth for their kicker role in 2026.

Ben Sauls and Dominic Zvada, two formerly undrafted players, are the two guys left on the roster.

Of course, this isn't a set-in-stone two-man battle. There are always veteran kickers available (including, as of this moment, Sanders). New York could opt to find a different choice if Sauls and Zvada don't look to be good enough.

For now, though, those are the two guys they didn't want to cut loose. Sanders has been let go and could pursue a spot elsewhere.

And Smith-Schuster, along with other new additions Odell Beckham Jr. and Braxton Berrios, joins a crowded WR depth chart.
