Giants' new manager target has a 101-win season and Manager of the Year award

The San Francisco Giants have had a ton of names thrown out as potential managerial targets.

In replacing Bob Melvin, the Giants appear to be leaving no stone unturned.

The newest name to surface is an intriguing one: Brandon Hyde.

John Shea of the San Francisco Standard reported that Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey has spoken to Hyde.

Hyde managed the Marlins for a single game in 2011. From 2019 through this past May, he was manager of the Baltimore Orioles.

In 2023, Hyde led the Orioles to a 101-win season and was named AL Manager of the Year.

Hyde took over an Orioles team in a rebuild and led them to great competitiveness. With strong expectations this season, though, Baltimore scuffled and Hyde paid the price.

He has a career record of 421-492, although much of that came when the Orioles weren't expected to be winners yet.

The Giants have a lot of choices, though, not just Hyde.

The former Giants catcher Nick Hundley seems heavily in the picture.

Reports in the last few weeks have also indicated that Cleveland Guardians associate manager Craig Albernaz and former MLB catcher Kurt Suzuki have both been inquired about for this role, as well.

The Giants will have to make the right call, because they'll want to rebound from a disappointing 2025 season into a much better 2026.
