Giants make trade decision on beloved $90 million franchise ace

The San Francisco Giants are not in great shape as a team right now, as the team is very likely to trade away some key players at this year's trade deadline.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic is reporting the Giants have already put out feelers on some of their players this season to get the ball rolling on a possible trade or two.

However, Rosenthal is also reporting that the Giants have made a trade decision on beloved $90 million ace Logan Webb this season. Unsurprisingly, the Giants have "zero" plan to trade the ace this summer.

Giants have 'zero' plan to trade Logan Webb

"The team has zero plans to part with ace right-hander Logan Webb, one source said," Rosenthal reports.

This is a sigh of relief for Giants fans. Even though trading away some veterans who are on big contracts, like Willy Adames, Matt Chapman, and Rafael Devers, might be appealing, Webb is someone who would be nice to hold onto.

The 29-year-old right-hander is under contract on a five-year, $90 million deal through the 2028 season. For now, the Giants have no reason to trade Webb away.

Now, if after the 2027 season, or during the 2028 season, the Giants determine they're to enter a rebuild, then trading Webb before he hits free agency would make some sense.

But, for now, the Giants aren't planning to trade Webb away, as he's under club control for the next 2.5 seasons and will continue to be a key member of the rotation as a beloved All-Star ace.

He has a 3.46 ERA this season in 12 starts, and has been a very good pitcher for the Giants recently, going seven, eight, and eight innings in his last three starts, allowing one total run over those outings with 18 strikeouts.

While the Giants might be putting out feelers in the trade market already, and seeing what they can do in the trade market later this summer, Webb doesn't appear to be on his way out anytime soon for the Giants.
