Big wins against top-ranked opponents fuel a rapid White Sox rise

The Chicago White Sox have come out as one of MLB's biggest surprise stories this season. They have already shattered expectations, stringing win after win together.

However, after losing Munetaka Murakami to the IL with a Grade 2 right hamstring strain, some were not sure how the team would react. But they haven't lost a step, and that's evident with the monster week they are coming off of.

With a rather unfortunate schedule last week, the White Sox took on two of MLB's top teams: the Atlanta Braves and then a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend, which was a real test.

Big wins against top-ranked opponents fuel a rapid White Sox rise

The White Sox were supposed to take on the Braves in a three-game series, but some ugly weather in Chicago would only allow two games to be played. Here, the White Sox took care of business, taking both games from the Braves.

Then, it was time to face off against the Dodgers over the weekend. With not much success against this team over the years, the White Sox were able to win the series 2-1.

Taking down two of MLB's best has the White Sox beating their chests, and fans will be happy to see the team has been bumped up from No. 13 to No. 6, according to Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter

"The White Sox welcomed the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in last week's MLB power rankings to Rate Field and came away with a 4-1 record and further proof that this upstart group is the real deal. The run of difficult opponents continues as they kick off a three-game series at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, and a series win would make this a top five team next week."

While the club must feel good about taking care of business, they can't let that get to their heads. They are in store for another tough opponent, this time on the road against the New York Yankees

And if they can continue their hot streak here, it's going to be hard to deny them a spot in the top five next week.
