The Jacksonville Jaguars are making wide receiver Brian Thomas available via trade and the New York Jets and Giants are two teams rumored to have interest.
On Monday, SNY's Connor Hughes reported that the Jaguars are now open to trading Thomas after being reluctant to do so before last year's trade deadline.
"The Jaguars are entertaining offers for WR Brian Thomas, SNY has learned," he reported.
Of course, Thomas had a dynamic rookie season before hitting a wall in Year 2, but he's still just 24 years old and it's shocking the Jaguars are even considering giving up on him this quickly.
But we digress...
According to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, the Jets and Giants are just two teams interested in acquiring Thomas' services.
"I didn’t say only the Jets and Giants would be interested in Brian Thomas. I said the Jets and Giants will be interested, as will many other teams," Rosenblatt reported.
When it comes to how much the Jaguars are looking for in return for Thomas, both Hughes and Rosenblatt said a second-round pick would likely get it done.
Both New York teams have a need at wide receiver this offseason.
The Giants lost their No. 2, Wan'Dale Robinson, to the Tennessee Titans in free agency, and the Jets don't have a proven target behind Garrett Wilson.
Both teams also have their second-round picks this year, although the Jets are stocked with two thanks to the Quinnen Williams trade, so they're a bit better equipped to offer the draft capital necessary to acquire Thomas.
This is a trade both teams should seriously consider pulling the trigger on, even if it's for a second-round pick.
Getting a 24-year-old wide receiver on a rookie deal who has shown elite potential before is an ideal addition for two teams that are building for both the now and the future.
If Thomas returns to his rookie form, a second-round pick will be a steal. If he doesn't, it was worth the gamble in the first place.
