Giants could reunite with three-time Pro Bowl receiver based on recent rumor

If the New York Giants want to make a splash on the free agent wide receiver market, there’s a particular move they could make.

A recent rumor indicates that the Giants could reunite with a three-time Pro Bowl wideout who began his career with New York.

"The obvious pat answer would be you look at every option," Giants coach John Harbaugh said Monday, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, "And if Odell (Beckham Jr.) is an option, we'll be looking at him for sure."

Beckham was a revelation for the Giants during the first five years of his career. The LSU product may be known for his infamous one-handed grab against the Dallas Cowboys as a rookie, but his contributions in New York went far beyond that.

The gifted route runner recorded four 1,000-yard receiving seasons, finished with 10 or more touchdowns three times, and helped the Giants reach the postseason in 2016 (they suffered a 38-13 NFC Wild Card loss to the Green Bay Packers).

However, the Giants decided to move on from Beckham after the 2018-19 season via a blockbuster trade to the Cleveland Browns. Beckham started his Browns tenure on an encouraging note (1,035 receiving yards and four touchdowns), but things quickly went downhill after his 2019-20 campaign.

The Browns waived the 33-year-old on Nov. 8, 2021, and he has struggled to find his footing since. While it may be a long shot, a reunion with New York could help Beckham get his career back on track and give the Giants another weapon on the outside.

Time will tell if the Giants express legitimate interest in bringing Beckham back for another stint.
