Giants could add 5-time Pro Bowl free agent in crucial post-draft move

The foundation of the New York Giants roster is set for the 2025 season.

Though NFL teams are constantly tweaking the depth charts, the majority of significant moves have already been made.

Even with some high expectations regarding the incoming draft class, the Giants could make a move to add some extra veteran depth to the offensive line.

When looking at a potential free agent to add following the draft, Sterling Xie of Pro Football Network believes New York should target former Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff.

"After drafting just a single offensive lineman — Purdue guard Marcus Mbow in the fifth round — the Giants also exited the draft with one of the worst lines. Apart from left tackle Andrew Thomas and center John Michael Schmitz Jr., the Giants could reasonably look for an upgrade at the other three spots," Xie wrote. "Among guards, only Trey Smith of the Chiefs (665) had more pass-blocking snaps without allowing a sack. The Giants could use that level of reliability, as Greg Van Roten is the team’s current projected starting right guard."

Despite the need for more depth on the interior, the Giants only used one draft pick on an offensive lineman. The aforementioned Mbow could slide to the interior eventually, but the Giants made it clear they will start him out at right tackle behind Jermaine Eluemunor.

That means the Giants are looking at a competition between Van Roten and former No. 7 overall pick Evan Neal, who is kicking inside for the first time in his embattled career.

A five-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro selection in 2020, Scherff could be in the mix to sign a deal between $6-7 million, according to Spotrac's market value.

The Giants likely need to move some money around following the draft, but adding a veteran like Scherff to the mix would increase their chances of improving the offensive line.
