The New York Giants pulled off a big win over the Houston Texans on Oct. 25 in overtime, 27-21, and that helped boost this Cinderella story of a year for the team. But it didn't come without a little wrinkle.

Giants star running back Cam Skattebo was punished by the NFL for a move that he made during the game, making it a less-than-perfect matchup for the second-year player.

On Saturday, the NFL served the Giants player with a $7,073 fine for illegal use of the helmet. At the time of the play during the game, officials also flagged him live on the field for 15 yards.

Cam Skattebo's playing style raises questions about the NFL's punishment

The move from the NFL was a bit controversial because Skattebo's physical approach has become part of his appeal. In fact, the NFL often posts clips of his toughest runs across its social media accounts, and those clips get lots of shares. But when those same plays lead to fines and penalties, it raises an obvious question. Fans sometimes wonder why the league is promoting the very style of play it's also punishing.

Either way, Skattebo has been hit with this fine. He can also appeal it, but if he just pays it, as he likely will, the funds go to a good cause. Fines collected, according to the NFL, are "donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation."
