Jaxson Dart is still just growing into his role. After getting drafted 25th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, he has learned a thing or two from his teammates. During the latest New York Giants practice, Coach John Harbaugh and Brian Burns saw one big improvement that they have been begging for the sophomore quarterback to work on. When he finally did it, the team started to burst into applause.

The New York Giants saw Jaxson Dart get sacked 35 times. When put into perspective, the whole squad and their fans saw their quarterback get taken down 9.36% of the time. This is a point of improvement that Coach John Harbaugh and the rest of the squad have begged him to work on in their past few training sessions.
Dart finally started executing his slides well during their August 10 practice. Coach Harbaugh and the Giants were in awe of their quarterback after seeing him go to the sidelines instead of getting put down or sacked. Brian Burns was also in that session, and he applauded the Giants quarterback for thinking of his own self-preservation, via SNY.
"We've been begging him to do that for a while now, so I'm glad that he's starting to practice it," Burns said.
If there is anyone in the NFL who knows how hard a quarterback goes down from a sack or takedown, Burns has to be at the top of the list. The Giants edge rusher has a bloodlust for oppressing opposing quarterbacks and wants Dart to experience this less to help their 2026 NFL season campaign.
When compared to other NFL quarterbacks, Dart placed 11th because he was sacked 35 times. It gets even worse when his sack percentage is put on a table with other arm-slingers in the league. Why is that the case? Well, Dart has the fifth-worst sack percentage because his numbers in that category added up to 9.36%. Only Geno Smith (10.93%), Lamar Jackson (10.65%), and Justin Herbert (9.54) have a higher sack percentage than him. All in all, the Giants have lost 152 yards because of Dart getting taken down.
Obviously, the Giants still saw Dart finish fourth in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting, but the number of times he has been taken down will clearly take a toll on his longevity. After taking the advice from Coach Harbaugh and Burns, he may have just added a few more playing years to his NFL career. Moreover, he becomes less of a liability to the Giants' offense whenever they are desperate to get downs.
