New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is set to miss his second straight game after failing to clear the concussion protocol. The rookie quarterback will be replaced in the Giants’ starting lineup by 31-year-old Jameis Winston for the second time in as many games.
Winston had his debut start for the Giants against Green Bay last Sunday after Dart suffered a concussion the previous week against the Chicago Bears. Dart’s expected absence for the Giants’ next game against the Detroit Lions has started drawing reactions from fans, especially online.

“Finally, some entertaining football.”Winston’s debut for the Giants didn’t go as he’d have likely planned, completing 19 of 29 passes for 201 yards and an interception. While he brings a wealth of experience, Winston doesn’t guarantee the Giants as much action under center as Dart has been delivering.
The veteran quarterback started the season as the Giants’ third-string quarterback behind Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart. As the season went on and Wilson fell out of favor, Winston climbed the depth chart to become Dart’s backup.
How has Jaxson Dart been as Giants No. 1 QB?
Since replacing Wilson in Week 4, Jaxson Dart has been impressive for the Giants, getting named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for October. He broke Cam Newton’s 14-year record to become the first quarterback in the league’s history to record a rushing touchdown in five straight games.
Similarly, he has gone five games with at least a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown.
The Giants enter Week 12 at the bottom of the NFC East with a 2-9 record. The franchise fired head coach Brian Daboll after starting the season 2-8 and promoted assistant coach Mike Kafka as interim head coach.
After losing his first game in charge, Kafka’s mission now will be to steady the Giants’ ship while a substantive head coach is sought.
