Giants' .786 OPS All-Star could win major MLB award with fourth different team

The San Francisco Giants are not having a very good season by any stretch of the imagination.

Manager Tony Vitello's group has struggled on offense, particularly with stars like Rafael Devers and Matt Chapman. However, the Giants' second baseman is having another typical year at the plate, doing what he does best: Putting the ball in play.

That's why The Athletic's Zack Meisel believes there is a strong possibility that Luis Arraez could win the fourth batting title of his career.

"Arraez trails only Miami’s Otto Lopez in the NL race this year, and if he can catch him and fend off everybody else over the next four months, he’ll win his fourth batting crown with his fourth different team," Meisel wrote.

Arraez won the batting title in the following years with these teams:

  • 2022 (.316) -- Minnesota Twins
  • 2023 (.354) -- Miami Marlins
  • 2024 (.314) -- San Diego Padres

As of Tuesday morning, Arraez has a .321 batting average, and Lopez has a .333 batting average. However, there's a lot more baseball left to play.

Sure, Arraez does not hit many home runs or draw walks. But there's no denying that winning a fourth batting title would be impressive.

Since he's a free agent at the end of the season, the Giants could consider trading Arraez if they cannot get themselves back in the postseason mix.
