The San Francisco Giants are one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball during the 2026 season. It's been a rough season, and their odds to make the playoffs are slim to none already.
In such a bad spot as a team, the Giants are very likely to be trade deadline sellers this season. The only question would be how far the team goes, and who is actually going to be moved.
According to MLB insider Robert Murray of Fansided.com, the Giants have a $115 million ace who is a "safe bet" to be traded this season. That ace? Left-handed starter Robbie Ray.
Giants' Robbie Ray 'safe bet' to be traded per MLB insider
"Ray, 34, is on an expiring contract and feels like a safe bet to be traded," Murray writes. "... There will be a long list of teams who check in on Ray, if they haven't already."
Ray, the veteran left-hander who is in the final year of his $115 million contract, is an obvious trade candidate for the Giants.
For any team that's likely to sell, players who are on expiring deals make the most sense as trade candidates. Ray is an obvious player for the Giants.

Not only does he fit the bill of a typical trade candidate, but as a starting pitcher, the Giants are sure to land something decent if they trade him this season.
He is a two-time All-Star, former Cy Young award winner, and this season he has a 4.45 ERA in 12 starts with an 87 ERA+.
While those aren't the best numbers, Ray is still a very good pitcher, and someone that teams with starting rotation issues should be looking to acquire.
Ray is a "safe bet" to be traded by the Giants this season, so fans should prepare to see the veteran lefty dealt as San Francisco prepares to sell some of their assets at the 2026 MLB trade deadline.
