The Milwaukee Bucks are entering the 2025-26 campaign with a retooled roster following a hectic offseason.
After their third consecutive first-round playoff exit and Damian Lillard’s torn Achilles tendon, Milwaukee waived and stretched the remaining $113 million on the superstar point guard’s contract over the next five years. The financial gamble freed up cap space to sign Myles Turner to a four-year, $108.9 million contract, giving Antetokounmpo a new No. 2.
While trade speculation surrounding Antetokounmpo has slowed as the offseason has progressed, a lackluster start before the trade deadline could mean trouble for Antetokounmpo’s future in Milwaukee.

Bucks fall in latest power rankings
ESPN recently released its power rankings for all 30 NBA teams over the next three seasons, with NBA insider Kevin Pelton explaining why the Bucks landed at No. 21.
“The Bucks made a creative pivot, stretching Lillard’s contract and signing Myles Turner. But Milwaukee has limited ability to upgrade the roster, which could spell the end of Antetokounmpo’s incredible run with the Bucks,” he wrote. “And with no draft picks under team control until 2031, a Milwaukee rebuild could slow.”
The Bucks still have some hope for the future if re-signed players like Kevin Porter Jr., Gary Trent Jr. and Ryan Rollins are able to take a step forward with Lillard out of the picture. Additionally, Milwaukee will expect Kyle Kuzma to provide a spark after disappointing in the playoffs last season.
Still, the Bucks’ decision to stretch Lillard’s contract could end up hurting them later on, especially if Antetokounmpo eventually requests a trade. Without Antetokounmpo, the Bucks’ future is certainly bleak.
Milwaukee has an opportunity to prove its doubters wrong this season, but if the team fails to do so, its franchise cornerstone may depart sooner rather than later.
