Giannis Antetokounmpo speculation growing around Thunder after title hopes collapse

Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo will be the biggest prize this offseason. The expectation is that he will find a new home for what is soon to be his 14th season in the league.

The only question is, where will he end up? There are a ton of teams in the running for the two-time MVP, but one team that will not be in the mix is the Oklahoma City Thunder

The Thunder, who have been suggested to make a move for Antetokounmpo, are likely not expected to pursue him. However, according to Sam Amick and Eric Nehm of The Athletic, rival teams may be on the lookout for the Thunder, as some believe they could end up making a move for the 10-time All-Star after their failed title defense.

"While the Thunder have not been expected to pursue Antetokounmpo, the specifics of their failed title defense against San Antonio in the Western Conference finals were enough to make rival teams wonder whether that stance might change."

Thunder have assets to pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo

If the Bucks are looking for picks and blue-chip prospects, the Thunder is the team that has exactly what they'd be looking for. Oklahoma City has 12 first-round picks between now and 2033.

While the Thunder were right on the doorstep of another Finals berth and potentially winning it all again, there is a chance they will make changes to their roster. They've proven to be a dominant team for the third consecutive season, but they only have one title to show for. On top of that, they have a major Victor Wembanyama issue.

If they feel like Antetokounmpo could be the answer to that, they'd be more inclined to make the move. No one would be surprised if the Thunder ultimately make a big swing for Antetokounmpo.
