'Backyard Baseball' unveils first-look trailer for remade 2026 video game

Many sports fans know names like Pablo Sanchez, Pete Wheeler and Kiesha Phillips from the video game series, but younger gamer may not be as familiar. This new version of the game will introduce bring these characters back to the forefront of the sports gaming world.

What is Backyard Baseball?

A new Backyard Baseball game will be out this Summer, bringing nostalgia to everyone who played the original game as a kid. This version, while sticking to much of the same script as the original, will have a few notable upgrades.

Some of the new features for the 2026 Backyard Baseball game include new game modes, unlockable players and online multiplayer levels. Steam describes the game as a "reimagined version of an all-time classic blends the best of modern gaming with the timeless charm that made it legendary."

IGN released a trailer to the new Backyard Baseball game, which will release this Summer. The game features updated graphics but includes all the iconic characters from the original game, as the trailer especially focuses on Pablo Sanchez.

Based on the released footage, the game looks simply like an updated version of the original, which was first released almost three decades ago.

Backyard Baseball release date 2026

Backyard Baseball will be released on July 9 for PC on Steam, with versions for other consoles being released at a later date. The game is expected to be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.

This will be the first Backyard Sports game released since Backyard Sports Baseball 2015, but that game was app-only. The last time a game was released for console was in 2010, when Backyard Sports: Rookie Rush was released.
