George Russell takes a brutal dig at Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc with a social media post

George Russell was riled up due to Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc cutting the turn 1-3 section on the opening lap and retaining their positions in the running order at the Mexican GP. Moreover, he continued taking jibes at drivers for lawnmowing their way through the first section of corners on his Instagram story, claiming he went from being P3 to toppling down the order because of it.

Over the years, multiple drivers have utilized cutting the grass on the opening lap of the Mexican GP whenever they have outbraked themselves. A similar incident took place at the 2025 edition of the race, as Verstappen and Leclerc went over the grass and retained their positions when rejoining the track.

Subsequently, other drivers who take the circuit in the way that it was intended feel hardly done by the stewards turning a blind eye to it. Moreover, Russell was one of the biggest drivers to push on this issue and even took a dig at the "Lestappen" duo after the race was over on his social media, as he captioned his Instagram story:

"Turn 2 thinking I'm in P3, staying on track clean and tidy. Nice. Turn 3, P6. Great 🤦‍♂️😂"

George Russell ultimately finished seventh at the Mexican Grand Prix, while Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen scored a podium.

George Russell started ahead of Max Verstappen at the Mexican GP. Though he was outrun by the Dutchman in the run-up to turn one, the Red Bull driver's inability to make the corner left many to wonder whether the Briton deserved to get back the fourth place.

However, with the FIA claiming it as a lap-one incident, a trend that has been the norm in Mexico for years, Russell asserted that a change in system should be implemented (via Motorsport.com):

"I don't understand how three drivers can cut the first corner and just continue in the position they entered. It's like, allowing you to risk everything, but you just have a get-out-of-jail-free card if you get it wrong. You know, we've seen it almost every year we've been here. I think it was Carlos [Sainz] last year, Charles the year before, Lewis 10 years ago. It's like a lawnmower racing." “Something needs to change there. Because as I said, if you can just send it down the outside, you can either make it stick or you just cut the grass and you return in the position you were in before. That's not really how it should be."

Meanwhile, apart from the McLaren duo, Max Verstappen and George Russell are the only drivers who are mathematically in contention for the 2025 drivers' title.
