All eyes are on San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle ahead of the Week 17 game against the Chicago Bears.
Kittle sustained an ankle injury in the Week 16 win over the Indianapolis Colts that forced his early exit from the contest. He was later reportedly diagnosed with a mid-to-low ankle sprain.
This week, Kittle was listed on the injury report and did not practice at all before drawing a questionable tag on Friday.
On Saturday, the Niners made a few roster moves and one of them is a bad sign for the Niners tight end's Week 17 availability.
George Kittle injury update
Ahead of Sunday's game versus the Bears, the Niners elevated tight end Brayden Willis from the practice squad, which is a clear indication that, at the very least, Kittle is in danger of not playing.
Seeing as how the Niners only have two other tight ends on their active roster other than Kittle (Jake Tonges and Luke Farrell), San Francisco would need another one if Kittle doesn't play.
We'll confirm Kittle's status an hour and a half before kickoff of the game against the Bears on Sunday, but right now it isn't looking good for the veteran tight end's chances of suiting up.
While the Niners have clinched their playoff berth, the team is still in the running for the NFC West and No. 1 seed.
If San Francisco can win out, they will clinch both.
