Gary Neville delivers damning verdict about Chelsea star

Former Manchester United skipper Gary Neville has delivered a damning verdict about new Chelsea signing Joao Pedro.

The Brazilian has had a good start to life as a Chelsea player but was unable to prevent the Blues from crashing to a 2-1 defeat to Man United on Saturday night.

The game turned in United’s favour after Blues' goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was dismissed in the fifth minute for denying Bryan Mbeumo a clear route to goal.

As a result, Sanchez will now miss the Lincoln City tie on Tuesday because of a one-game suspension.

Despite Pedro managing five goal contributions in five Premier League games so far this season, Neville believes that Pedro is not on the same level as some of his counterparts.

According to Neville, Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike are all better forwards than Pedro.

Gary Neville claims Chelsea forward Joao Pedro isn’t on Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak or Hugo Ekitike’s level

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, he said, “I have to say, they look well short for me, still, up front.

For all the money that they’ve spent, and I know they’ve got good players, he’s got Delap and Joao Pedro, who’s a good player.

But they’re still not at that level, where you think that they’re nothing like Haaland, or Isak or even Ekitike for that matter.”

It’s hard to argue with Neville’s analysis of Pedro at the moment, given that most of the players compared to him have enjoyed better starts to the season or have been proving themselves in the Premier League for longer than Pedro has.

However, Pedro has the opportunity to prove Neville wrong by continuing his good start to the campaign as Chelsea take their season forward.
