The much-awaited IPL 2026 auction took place in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16. A total of 77 players were sold at the mini-auction, with 29 of them being overseas cricketers. The 10 franchises combined to spend a total of ₹215.45 crore at the auction.
As widely predicted, Australia all-rounder Cameron Green was the costliest player purchased at the IPL 2026 auction. He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for ₹25.20 crore. Green is now the most expensive overseas player in the history of the IPL, although he will be paid ₹18 crore as per the maximum fee rule.
KKR, who went into the mini-auction with the largest purse of ₹64.30 crore, also purchased Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana for ₹18 crore. Further, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought the uncapped Indian duo of Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer for ₹14.2 crore each. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) acquired the services of England's batting all-rounder Liam Livingstone for ₹13 crore.
List of West Indies cricketers purchased at IPL 2026 auction
Of the 29 overseas players sold at the IPL 2026 auction, only two were from West Indies - Jason Holder and Akeal Hosein. Seasoned all-rounder Holder was purchased by Gujarat Titans (GT) for ₹7 crore, while left-arm spinner Hosein was bought by CSK for his base price of ₹2 crore.
Holder has played 46 IPL matches in which he has claimed 53 wickets at an average of 27.56 and an economy rate of 8.81. With the bat, he has scored 259 runs at a strike rate of 122.74. Hosein has featured in just one IPL game, which was for the Hyderabad franchise in the 2023 season.

A number of West Indies cricketers went unsold at the IPL auction in Abu Dhabi. The list includes Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Roston Chase, Kyle Mayers, Obed McCoy and Shamar Joseph.
A few West Indies players were retained by their respective franchises ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. Rajasthan Royals (RR) retained Shimron Hetmyer, KKR retained Sunil Narine and Rovman Powell, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) retained Nicholas Pooran, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru retained Romario Shepherd.
Ahead of the auction, Sherfane Rutherford was traded from GT to Mumbai Indians (MI). Star all-rounder Andre Russell won't feature in IPL 2026 as a player. He retired from the Indian T20 league after being released by KKR and was subsequently appointed as the franchise's power coach.
