Conservative podcaster Candace Owens has raised several questions in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk's death. Owens challenged the credibility of Kirk's murder investigation, and questioned some other circumstances surrounding his death. In her recent podcast video, Owens also questioned the actions of some people in the close circle of the late activist, including his chief of staff, Mikey McCoy.
Christian apologist and author Frank Turek, host of Cross Examined, reacted to Candace Owens' remarks. Turek was a mentor to Kirk and was present alongside the TPUSA founder when he was shot. On October 27, Turek shared a recording of his Bible reading session on his YouTube channel.
In this session, a person talked to Turek and said that it "sucks" to hear "conspiracy theories" from Candace Owens about Charlie Kirk's death. Responding to the person, Turek said,
"I haven't followed a lot of what Candace Owens has done, but I will say what I have seen. There's a difference between a possibility and evidence for a possibility. You can speculate on anything you want, but unless you have evidence, shut up. Okay? Because all you're doing is causing dissension among the brothers."Charlie Kirk’s close friend Frank Turek says the best thing that could happen right now would be for the internet to go down because it’s fueling “conspiracy theories” about Charlie’s death. He tells Candace Owens to shut her mouth, saying she has no evidence and that God hates
Frank Turek further asked the former Daily Wire host not to "accuse people" of something of which she had "no evidence." The author addressed Owens' recent remarks on Mikey McCoy.
"I heard today she was judging people who didn't act the right way... Like my friend Mikey McCoy, the brilliant 24-year-old... He apparently didn't act the right way, according to Candace Owens. He didn't act normal. News flash. There is no normal when you're in shock. There is no normal when an abnormal thing happens."Turek said that people react in their own ways in different situations. He added that he was present with Charlie Kirk when the incident took place and added that nothing could be done to save him. Turek said that Owens had been judging people from a video, sitting afar and adding "pain to people who had enough pain."
What did Candace Owens say about Charlie Kirk's chief of staff?
In her October 27 podcast, Candace Owens discussed a video in which Charlie Kirk's chief of staff, Mikey McCoy, was seen talking on his phone seconds after the TPUSA founder was shot.
"Charlie got shot, and Mikey, in less than a second, does something that I find to be quite strange. He puts his phone to his ear and he begins a conversation... It is exactly 834 milliseconds from the time that you hear the shot. That is how long it takes for Mikey McCoy to put the phone to his ear," Owens said. She further argued that there would be no need for "assumptions" if TPUSA could "just tell the truth." She claimed that she reached out to Andrew Kolvet and McCoy for clarification, but did not get any response. Candace Owens found that odd, noting that if the situation were reversed and clips of her were going viral with people speculating about her behavior, she would have immediately clarified things.
Following online speculation, Andrew Kolvet, TPUSA's spokesperson, addressed the viral video in a recent episode of The Charlie Kirk Show. Kirk's show producer, Blake Neff, said he was present alongside Mikey McCoy when the shooting took place. He slammed the attack on Charlie Kirk's chief of staff.
"Mikey was a heroic figure on that day. And I just really want anyone who finds like these narratives attacking him to be remotely credible to really, really stop and think about what you are doing because what you are doing is bad and it is gross," he added. In her October 28 podcast, Candace Owens again raised doubts about the clarification given by TPUSA members. She also addressed Frank Turek's comments and said she accepted his challenge and promised to share "more facts."
