Four-time All-Star believes Warriors should reunite Stephen Curry with former MVP

The Golden State Warriors were bounced from the postseason by the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of their second-round matchup. While fans of the organization will spend the summer wondering how different things could have been if Stephen Curry played more than 13 minutes in the series, the front office will turn their focus to improving the roster.

Four-time All-Star DeMarcus Cousins -- who spent the 2018-19 season with the Warriors -- believes that the franchise needs to do what they can to reunite Curry with another former MVP who spent three seasons in Golden State.

"The Warriors (are in) such a weird situation, to me," Former All-Star DeMarcus Cousins claimed Tuesday. "And the biggest reason is they don't have youth on their side. It seems like this window has been closing year-by-year for this team and the foundation that they have. I mean, obviously, adding a Kevin Durant type guy would be great for them and I think that would put them in the conversation of being a dominant team in the West. But, outside of that, I don't really see a fit there that gets them over the hump. I mean, I've seen the rumors of Giannis (Antetokounmpo) being a possible addition. I mean, I think that would change them greatly, but I don't really see that happening. I don't see Giannis going out too West. He's already said that he wants to go to a tax-free state so, obviously, Cali is one of the highest -- that's not an option. San Francisco is one of the most expensive cities to live in -- that doesn't really add up. So, they should send a nice gift basket to Kevin Durant."

Durant spent three seasons with the Warriors, winning two titles in that span. While they appeared to be on the verge of a potential three-peat, he suffered a right calf strain in the postseason. After missing nine games, the 2013-14 MVP returned in Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals and appeared to be back to his normal self before tearing his Achilles tendon.

Although him and Curry are both older than they were in their previous stint together -- and Klay Thompson is no longer with the team -- adding the 15-time All-Star would likely make Golden State immediate contenders. Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from three-point range and 83.9% from the free-throw line in 2024-25.
