The Tennessee Volunteers men's basketball have been on fire this transfer portal cycle, as Rick Barnes has landed nearly every player he has targeted. With the latest addition of Juke Harris, Barnes now holds the top portal class in the country.
“Tennessee basketball keeps adding to its star-studded transfer portal haul, adding Wake Forest guard Juke Harris on Monday, May 4. Harris, the No. 2-ranked overall player in the transfer portal in USA TODAY's rankings, averaged 21.4 points with 6.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game last season on 44.4% shooting. He chose the Vols over Michigan, which he visited, and North Carolina, among others. Harris' commitment lifts Tennessee's portal haul to No. 1 in USA TODAY Sports' class rankings,” USA Today’s Austin Curtright wrote.
Barnes has added plenty of offensive options, which was a clear priority entering the portal.
“This year, we knew that we wanted more offense,” said Barnes on Rocky Top Insider’s “RTI Low Down.” “We didn’t want to really rely on two or three guys… We don’t want to coach these guys on every play - we want some guys that can go create offense.”
When Barnes’ comments went public, former guard Bishop Boswell didn’t seem to take them too well.
“Former Tennessee guard Bishop Boswell’s response to the same post on Instagram. Boswell, a combo guard out of high school, signed with Maryland after entering the transfer portal. The Myers Park product spent two seasons with the Vols,” Volunteer reporter William Patteson wrote.

Boswell’s laughing emoji response suggests it may have played a role in the two sides parting ways. While Boswell was strong defensively, he was not much of an offensive threat.
In today’s era of NIL and the transfer portal, every player has their own reasons for leaving a program. Still, Boswell’s reaction may hint at a deeper connection to Barnes’ comments. Whatever the case, it’s clear he didn’t view the remarks favorably.
