Former three-time NBA All-Star slams Lakers for sole trade deadline acquisition being Luke Kennard

The Los Angeles Lakers are doing well in the 2025-26 season, with a record of 31-19, and sitting in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. However, there is a former NBA superstar that’s not very happy with their decision making at the trade deadline.

Former three-time All-Star Gilbert Arenas was on his show, and went on a rant about the Lakers only getting Luke Kennard at the deadline. He cited all the big blockbusters that the Lakers have made in the past five years in the offseason and at the deadline, and was perplexed why they couldn’t get anyone better.

“When you talk about trades, like trades, like we traded we got LeBron, we traded we got Anthony Davis, we traded and we got Luka. You see I’m at the restaurant thinking I’m about to get Wagyu. They traded and gave me Tofu and I’m supposed to be happy with it. Man if you don’t take this **** back. He should have been cut, I got six people on my team we can cut, I can guarantee you I won't blink a bit,” Arenas stated.

Overall, getting Kennard was a good move for the Lakers. He’s a great three-point shooter, averaging eight points and shooting near 50% from deep. For playmakers like Luka Doncic and LeBron James, having a guy like Kennard is a dream come true.

However, Arenas’ argument does hold water. The Lakers are a top three franchise in the NBA when it comes to money and notoriety, so why couldn’t they get a better star? There were multiple on the market that could have made the Lakers better.

Hopefully this doesn’t come back to bite the Lakers this season, and if it does, they make a splash in the offseason.
