Former Premier League striker advises Chelsea to sign proven goalkeeper

3 hours ago 2

Chelsea’s problems in goal have been well-documented since Enzo Maresca took charge of the club at the start of last season.

Despite deciding to stick to Robert Sanchez for the start of this season, the Spaniard has looked far from convincing in goal and was also sent off against Manchester United earlier in the season.

Additionally, a lot of Chelsea fans are still unconvinced about Sanchez as their goalkeeper and would like to see him replaced sooner rather than later.

In such a situation, it comes as no surprise that the Blues have been linked with several goalkeepers in particular.

For instance, Chelsea had reportedly agreed personal terms with AC Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan during the summer transfer window, but were unable to agree a deal with the Italian club for the player.

Since the West London side are still said to be on the lookout for a goalkeeper, former Premier League striker Darren Bent has advised them to make a move for a proven shot-stopper.

Darren Bent advises Chelsea to move for proven Premier League goalkeeper

Everton and England stopper Jordan Pickford might be available for buy with a contract running out in 2027.

It looks like he could soon sign a new deal with Everton, though, although anything could happen there, and Chelsea might fancy a move to sign him either way.

Jordan Pickford and Erling Haaland

There are no strong links with Pickford and Chelsea right now, but former player turned pundit, Darren Bent, believes Pickford should go to Chelsea.

Bent said this week on Jordan Pickford’s contract situation, “He’s settled there [at Everton]. If Chelsea come calling, why not? But they might not. That’s the problem.”

As Bent suggested, while Pickford may seem like a decent option for Chelsea, it is unlikely that the Blues will make a move for the Evertonian.

Further, it is debatable whether the England international is a world-class goalkeeper, and a lot of Chelsea fans may not be content with his potential signing.
