The Miami Heat had a surprisingly tumultuous season in 2024-25. While they have often drawn praise for their culture, there was an unprecedented amount of drama surrounding the organization.
The Jimmy Butler drama that culminated in him being shipped to the Golden State Warriors and reports that Pat Riley's micromanaging may have ran LeBron James out of town in 2014 were constant distractions throughout the year. While the Heat were able to reach the postseason, they were swept in the first-round.
They suffered a 55-point loss in Game 4 and were outscored by 122 points in the series, setting an NBA record for the most lopsided series in postseason history. A former NBA All-Star recently suggested that Miami is where disgruntled Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo should land.
"I could definitely see a breakup on the horizon. And I think it's time. I think Giannis and the Bucks have ran their course. I think he's given them everything he can and I think it's time for him to start thinking about himself and his situation. It's time for him to be selfish with his career. I would love to see Giannis in Miami, honestly. I think that's a match made in heaven. I think that's the perfect move. It would definitely help Miami with them struggling to get a superstar after how the breakup went with Jimmy Butler. It makes sense. He's already said he wants to play in a tax-free state, which is Florida, so it makes sense. It makes complete sense. It's an organization that's proven they know how to build around a superstar. It would definitely put a better light on Pat Riley -- with how it went with Jimmy Butler -- to get another superstar like Giannis. So, it makes sense, in my opinion."

The Heat appear to be stuck in the middle-tier of the league as they do not have enough talent to truly contend, but have too much talent to compete for top picks. Landing Antetokounmpo would instantly change that, however, as the nine-time All-Star is one of the premier players in the league.
He remains in his prime -- at just 30 years old -- and is set to receive his seventh consecutive top-four MVP finish. The two-time winner of the award averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 60.1% from the field this season.
