Former Mikel Arteta favourite tipped to lead Arsenal's summer transfer exits

Arsenal will go through massive changes in the upcoming summer transfer window. While fans may expect several incoming players, the North London outfit will have to offload players to free up funds.

One such player, who is inching closer towards exit from Emirates Stadium, is Oleksandr Zinchenko.

As per Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke, the Ukrainian will be on his way out of North London this summer. This decision comes after a season where he has been reduced to a fringe player.

Zinchenko, who was once a crucial player in Mikel Arteta's setup due to his ability to play as a left-back, has fallen in the pecking order with the rise of young Myles Lewis-Kelly in the left-back position.

With Arsenal also securing the deal of Riccardo Calafiori last summer, Zinchenko's role in the current setup is questionable, as his minutes have been limited. Therefore, both parties have decided to part ways.

The Gunners are desperately looking to bring in young and talented players in multiple positions. But for that, they will have to make some sales, and it seems like Zinchenko may start the process this summer.

Where can Zinchenko land this summer?

The 28-year-old had offers in the January transfer window. Although the North Londoners wanted to offload him, they didn't get suitable permanent deals.

As per reports, Zinchenko is headed to Germany with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund interested in the versatile midfielder. The Black and Yellows showed interest in signing him in January but failed to negotiate with the club.

The Ukraine international, who joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 for £32 million, including bonuses. The 28-year-old played an integral role at left-back for Arteta since joining the club.

But with Lewis-Kelly's rise and Calafiori's arrival, he was limited to a more squad player role. With Mikel Merino dealing with injuries throughout the season, Zinchenko was mostly used as a midfielder.

He has only featured in 20 games this season for the Gunners, registering a solitary goal and an assist. This is contrary to his 35 games in the 2023/24 season and 33 games in the 2022/23 campaign.

Hence, he is looking to restart his career in Dortmund, where he may get more gametime and will also play a bigger role in Niko Kovac's setup.
