Former Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal has turned himself in to the police in Broward County, Florida, following an incident that occurred on Monday, according to Local 10 News' Chris Gothner.
"Rafael Furcal, a three-time Major League Baseball All-Star shortstop, turned himself in at the Broward County jail to face two felony charges Wednesday, according to online records," wrote Gothner.
"Furcal, 47, of Weston, is facing charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and missile into dwelling, vehicle, building or aircraft for an incident that happened on Monday, court records show. Details about the case weren’t immediately available Thursday, including the incident location. Court records listed the Broward Sheriff’s Office as the 'filing agency,' but a BSO spokesperson directed questions about the arrest to Sunrise police."
While details of the incident are not clear yet, this is not Furcal's first encounter with the law. He was arrested twice for driving under the influence while he was a member of the Atlanta Braves. Furcal played for the Braves from 2000-2005 before joining the Dodgers. He was the National League Rookie of the Year in 2000.
With the Dodgers, Furcal played in 617 games and was an All-Star in 2010. He played 14 seasons in the big leagues before retiring in 2014. According to Gothner, he was no longer listed on BSO active records on Thursday morning.
