The Cleveland Browns have one of the more intriguing quarterback controversies in recent memory on their hands. They have four new quarterbacks that weren't on the roster a year ago, two of whom were drafted this past week. Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders will all be competing for the Browns' starting quarterback job, but one former Browns quarterback sees this getting more difficult before it gets easier.
Joining The Ken Carman Show on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland, former Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer says that there aren't enough reps to go around and points out the predicament of having too many quarterbacks.
"The one thing I'll say, when it's two [quarterbacks], it's hard enough even splitting two reps," Hoyer said. To try and get four guys to get out there competing for a starting job, you're gonna need to start knocking guys back..."
This could signal a grim future for Shedeur Sanders, as Hoyer points out that veterans will want to win now and may favor having Flacco be the starter rather than rely on Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, or Kenny Pickett. With only so many reps and opportunities to prove himself, combined with the apparent drama that follows him, Sanders will be fighting an uphill battle in Cleveland.
