Former Broncos defensive great predicted to sign with team's biggest rival

Former Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons is still looking for the right spot ahead of the 2025 season. 

After being released by the Broncos last offseason, Simmons waited five months before signing with the Atlanta Falcons in the middle of August. His release from the Broncos came as a surprise to many, but it was done to save money against the salary cap. The fact that it took him so long to find another team was also a surprise, and it looks like he may do the same thing this year. 

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports took a recent look at Simmons' free-agency status and came up with a list of teams that could sign the veteran safety. On that list is the Las Vegas Raiders. 

"Linked to big-name cover men like Jaire Alexander and Jalen Ramsey thanks to their dearth of proven options at cornerback, the Raiders could just as easily use a savvy starter on the back end under the defensively minded Pete Carroll. Besides possessing plenty of 2025 salary cap space to add help, the Raiders also employ pass game coordinator Joe Woods, who served as Simmons' first defensive backs coach in Denver", wrote Benjamin. 

This is something that likely would have hurt Broncos Country much more last season, as Simmons' dismissal was still fresh in their minds, but no Broncos fan wants to see Simmons in the silver and black. 

Much like Von Miller, Simmons will always be seen as a Broncos guy. He was one of the best safeties to ever play for the team. The former third-round pick spent eight seasons in Denver, making the Pro Bowl twice and being named a Second-Team All-Pro four times. His 30 career interceptions rank 7th in team history. 

On top of the on-field accomplishments, he's one of the more likable players in recent Broncos history and one the fanbase will always wish the best for. However, if he lands in Vegas, some of that might change.
