A former college football quarterback who played at two Big 12 Conference schools will now be entering the coaching ranks.
Gerry Bohanon Jr., who played quarterback at Baylor and BYU as well as South Florida, was recently named the quarterbacks coach at West Memphis (Arkansas) High School.

Bohanon returns to his roots in eastern Arkansas, having grown up in the nearby town of Earle. He graduated from Earle in 2018, having passed for 11,362 yards and 142 touchdowns while rushing for nearly 6,000 yards and 70 TDs during his high school career, originally signing with Baylor as a 4-star recruit.
With the Bears, Bohanon played four seasons and passed for 2,200 yards and 18 TDs while adding 323 yards rushing and nine scores. In the 2021 season, he helped lead Baylor to a 12-2 record and a Sugar Bowl win against Ole Miss while throwing for 2,160 yards and 17 TDs.
Gerry Bohanon didn't need to do much, but the Earle alum had a TD as Baylor won the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Baylor HC Dave Aranda had high praise for Bohanon after the game.

Bohanon then transferred to South Florida for the 2022 season. He played that one season with the Bulls, throwing for 1,070 yards and six TDs before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.
After sitting out the 2023 season, Bohanon transferred to BYU and finished up his college career there, playing in four games. He threw just four pass attempts, completing three of them, for 27 yards.
Now, Bohanon will be launching his coaching career not far from his hometown. He was one of four new position coaches hired at West Memphis, with the others being running backs coach Justin Kinnard, linebackers coach Dre Lawson and tight ends coach Elvin McCray.
The Blue Devils, who went 1-9 last season, kick off their upcoming season on Aug. 29 at home against Hot Springs.
