A Florida mayor’s half-his-age former fiancé committed suicide Thursday morning — five months after he allegedly battered the pol in a last-ditch effort to mend their broken relationship.

Daniel Curran, 35, was found dead outside of an apartment complex in Fort Lauderdale, just after 9 a.m. Thursday, police told the Tampa Bay Times. It marked the same day Curran turned 35 and came just a day after the jilted lovers appeared in court, the outlet reported.

Curran had a short-lived engagement with Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, a Democrat, last year –who expressed his “profound sorrow” in a curt statement to the outlet.

“He was a loving individual, and my sympathies go out to his family,” the mayor said. “Perhaps now, the pain he endured will subside. May he rest in peace.”

Trantalis, 72, started dating Curran in March 2025 and by July the pair were engaged. But in September, he suddenly filed for a domestic violence injunction against Curran.

The injunction was set to expire on Dec. 3, but Curran allegedly violated it and showed up at Trantalis’ home on Nov. 1.

Curran was insistent on reconnecting and a brawl quickly broke out between the pair. Curran allegedly shoved the mayor, who tried to fight back before being dragged to the ground.

The former flame allegedly hauled Trantalis 15 feet across the street — causing the mayor to suffer various injuries to his wrist, leg and knee.

Curran was arrested four day later after he returned to Trantalis’ home. He was charged with battery on a person 65 or older, contempt of court, and violating an injunction.

In court filings for the domestic violence injunction, Trantalis accused Curran of throwing things in an apparent fit of rage, brandishing knives and toppling furniture while trying to force the mayor out of his own home, in court filings for the domestic violence .

Trantalis testified that he originally thought “there was some way to rehabilitate” his decades-younger boyfriend “by trying to reconnect,” but gave up all hope after the purported assault, according to court papers.

He also noted that he tried his best to “steer [Curran] into counseling and mental health treatment” even after their chaotic separation, court papers said.

A judge granted Trantalis’ request for a no-contact order against Curran.

When Curran posted his $6,000 bond two days after his arrest, he bolted out of jail and doubled down on his ruined relationship, insisting, “No matter what. I always have and will love him.”

The pair appeared in civil court on Wednesday, where Trantalis claimed that Curran was no longer a threat. The judge allowed and the no-contact order to be remedied to allow for select interactions, as reported by Local10.
