The NBA Draft is here, and lives are about to change forever. It’s a special kind of night—one where so many players get to see their dreams come to fruition. There’s nothing like hearing your name called.
Walter Clayton Jr., a projected first-round pick, is expected to hear his name announced at some point—maybe even in the lottery.
“A lot of scouts are starting to firmly believe he can crack the top 10. I could make a case that he could be the second or third pick in the NBA Draft,” Jay Williams said. “The shots he makes, combine Dame Lillard with Steph Curry, his game to me seems like a marriage between the two.”
Currently, ESPN projects Clayton as the No. 23 pick to the New Orleans Pelicans. He’s a gifted point guard with a natural ability to score.
“Clayton has showcased his dynamic shotmaking in workouts and worked his way up boards in a first round that has shaped up somewhat light on point guard options. He has fans in front offices selecting higher than this, with scenarios in play in which he lands in the top 20,” ESPN’s Jonathan Givony wrote.
However, Clayton may have recently hinted at where he wants to play. In a video, he was asked to name three people he'd like to have dinner with, and his answer raised eyebrows.

“Erik Spoelstra…Erik Spoelstra, Rick Ross, and probably Kobe,” Clayton said.
A homecoming to play for the Miami Heat would make a lot of sense, especially considering how he ended up at Florida in the first place.
“But I ended up having a change and going home to visit my family,” Clayton told Paul Finebaum. “My daughter, she was due, and that was kind of another decision. I felt like I needed to be closer to home to be with my family and be with my girl. It was a great decision.”
There’s truly nothing like playing close to home—and Clayton knows that better than most. With the draft just hours away, the national champion point guard could very well get his wish.
