On Friday, Liverpool announced the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen on a British record fee.
The Reds beat the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to the signature of the German international, and now the player has revealed the influence that Liverpool boss Arne Slot had on his decision.
The former Bayer Leverkusen star, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents, has opened up about the early conversations that proved crucial in shaping his decision.
As reported by transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, Wirtz said:
“I can remember the first time, he already showed me some scenes of how we want to play and how I could fit in the team”.

Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp after a remarkable tenure, is known for his progressive, possession-based style of football.

Wirtz, who had long been linked with elite clubs such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, chose Liverpool after being sold on Slot’s project.
