Fever's Makayla Timpson stuns Sophie Cunningham with unprecedented WNBA play

1 hour ago 3

Makayla Timpson is not one of the more well-known Indiana Fever players.

But the 6-foot-2 frontcourt player known as 'KK' will gain fans in a hurry if she keeps making plays like the one she did on Thursday night.

Playing against the Phoenix Mercury, Timpson trailed Kahleah Copper down the line as Copper rose up for a left-handed layup.

Timpson skied to block the shot -- and she pinned it to the backboard.

In the WNBA, it's the kind of play that pretty much never happens. It was astounding timing, instincts and athleticism from Timpson:

Fever teammate Sophie Cunningham had this to say on X after the game about the block:

"I’ve never seen this happen in the W ever. Just filthy."

Thompson is a strong rim protector, with 0.7 blocks per game despite playing just 13.3 minutes per contest so far this season. She's also averaging 3.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Thompson was the No. 19 overall pick in 2025 out of Florida State, and she has improved her numbers across the board in her second season.

And yeah, if she keeps blocking shots like that, she'll keep getting chances on the court.
