Fever's Caitlin Clark set for new WNBA record that proves her one-of-a-kind talent again

With just three more assists, Caitlin Clark will shatter a WNBA record.

If Clark assists on three baskets in the Indiana Fever's next game against the Golden State Valkyries, she will become The W's all-time leader in assists per game. And it won't even be close.

The only reason Clark -- whose 8.6 assists per game mark is 1.3 times higher than the current leader, Courney Vandersloot -- does not already have this record does have something to do with her durability.

To gain eligibility, Clark has to have slung 500 career assists. Right now, she is at 497.

Clark would have had this record in 2025 had she not missed most of the season with a succession of soft tissue injuries.

But with three dimes against Golden State on Thursday, Clark officially will have the career assists-per-game mark -- and it might be a while before she loses it.

At just 24 years old, Clark has averaged at least eight assists in each of her three professional seasons to date.

While her 3-point shooting is what elevated her to global fame, Clark's passing and playmaking are quite literally about to become WNBA history.
