Fever's Caitlin Clark played an odd game in loss to high-powered Breanna Stewart, Liberty

It took a long time for Caitlin Clark to score her first basket on Saturday night.

Despite that, the Indiana Fever led the New York Liberty for much of the first half anyway.

That didn't hold up. The Liberty went on to win 83-75.

Breanna Stewart scored 30 points to push New York past Indiana despite the continued injury absence of Sabrina Ionescu.

As for Clark, her night stayed a bit odd throughout.

She was a plus-3, meaning the Fever were better with her on the floor than off, but she also shot just 4-for-14 from the floor, including 2-for-7 from 3-point range.

Clark had 10 points, seven rebounds and nine assists.

She also turned the ball over three times.

Watching the game, she didn't quite find good enough room to maneuver once she got past her initial defender.

Clark did a good job of not always settling for the 3, but it felt like she was just a tad hesitant when she got in the lane.

To be fair, the Liberty usually either have the 6-foot-6 Jonquel Jones or the 6-foot-11 Han Xu in there, along with the uber-talented defender Stewart. It's not an easy rim to score at.

Clark often would turn back around after an initial foray toward the hoop and look for another option.

Her shot wasn't falling, and Stewart was too good for a Fever defense that was picked apart by cutters all night long.

It's still early, but it wasn't a super encouraging night for Indiana.
